Do you stick to the 3,000 mile rule when it comes to your vehicle’s oil changes?Did you know…
A recent survey by the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) indicates that almost 10 million Californians change their motor oil every 3,000 miles or less.
Approximately 114 million gallons of used oil are sold in California annually. That’s enough to fill 173 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
The 3,000 mile rule no longer applies to most vehicles. In fact, automakers now recommend oil changes at 5,000, 7,000 or even 10,000 miles for some vehicle models. You can Check Your Number by reviewing your owner’s manual.
Do you change your oil frequently to ensure your vehicle lasts longer?
Did you know…
Just because your motor oil looks black doesn’t mean it’s time for a change. Changing your oil too frequently hurts the environment but has no impact on your vehicle’s efficiency.
With advancements in vehicle and oil technologies, it is not only possible but recommended for many vehicles to go longer between oil changes without compromising your vehicle’s engine or sacrificing performance.
Are you a do-it-yourselfer and recycle your oil?
Did you know…
It only takes one gallon of used motor oil to pollute one million gallons of water! Nearly 40% of the pollution in America’s waterway is from used motor oil. Oil is insoluble and if it not recycled properly it finds its way into oceans, lakes and other bodies of water harming fish and other aquatic wildlife.
It is important to properly recycle your motor oil by emptying into a receptacle designed especially for motor oil to ensure it is not contaminated with any other by-products. Do not mix any other materials, including water, with used oil.
Improper disposal of used motor oil is illegal and can result in fines up to $10,000
Do your part to help the environment and save money in the process. Check your number in your owner’s manual for the recommended oil change mileage and take action.
